Synopsis
After years of serving an ineffectual emperor, Louise expects her life as empress to end in exhaustion and ruin. She plans to leave the marriage and secure a modest palace position instead. Before she can begin anew, the throne passes to the emperor's estranged brother, Regan, who refuses her divorce and demands that she remain both his official consort and his subordinate.
