Synopsis
In Edo-era Japan, peasant Hanbē hopes to marry O-haru, but she admits her heart is set on Masakichi, a young man from a nearby village. Seeking out his rival, Hanbē discovers that Masakichi carries a sword and handles it with remarkable proficiency—an unsettling contradiction to his humble status that draws the three into a dangerous conflict.
