Synopsis

In the final years of China's Sui dynasty, paid protection fighters travel dangerous routes while guarding people pursued by the government. As political order breaks down and violence spreads, these escorts become entangled in a widening struggle shaped by resentment, fear, and competing loyalties. Their work places them at the center of a country nearing civil war.
